Hello and welcome to Pretty Cosy Chai!

My name’s Alex and I design fabric that I use to hand-sew lovely charming little things.

More precisely, I design vintage-inspired fabric in small sets of three, a hero print and two blenders, and then I sew something pretty with them by hand. Why by hand? I don’t have the space or the budget for a sewing machine.

This blog follows each project from pattern to finished make, and shares the things I am learning as a beginner hand-seamstress.

Behind the business name

Why Pretty Cosy Chai? I love to look at pretty things, I love cosy living and a slower pace of life and I love a good cup of chai latte.

The artist

I came to surface pattern design late in life and have grown very fond of the beauty of past eras. I’m self-taught and work exclusively in Procreate.

How I like to craft and design

At my own slow and cosy pace, on my own terms. I keep things simple and gentle, and I guard my making time.

The Beginner Hand-Seamstress

I have a dream: some day, to be able to hand-sew myself beautiful vintage-style clothes with my own fabric. For now, space for crafting is limited at home and so is craft budget. So, I work small most of the time and every project choice is driven by the space it takes and the financial cost. I have a little stash of vintage-style pieces in my wardrobe that I built up through time by shopping at charity shops, my favourite place to shop for clothes. But I’d like to grow this stash a little further in the future.
