The Bright Side, Collected Daily

As we go about our daily life, it can be easy to get caught in the nitty gritty of things or our endless list of problems and let those set our mood and energy to negative.

We all do it without even realizing it.

And sometimes those negative states can last far too long.

And the longer we stay stuck in those negative states, the more they affect our wellbeing. We get upset, depressed, stressed, etc.

The thing is we don’t need to live life this way.

At the end of the day, no matter how difficult the day was or the challenges we faced, it’s ok to gift ourselves a few minutes of positive time. Sometimes these few minutes may be all we need to reset our internal button to positive before we enjoy the evening or even go to bed.

One way to reset our internal world to positive is by taking time, at the end of the day, to celebrate the positive things that happened during that day.

Gratitude.

I don’t necessarily strictly support everything that is said about gratitude but I certainly support the idea of taking time to celebrate whatever you deem positive that happened during your day because I tasted it in the past and observed the positive impact on my mental health back then. Sadly for me, I didn’t manage to keep it going. But I will be seizing the opportunity of writing this post to get back into it.

How does it work?

For instance, you could keep a journal like the one below so you have a dedicated place where to write down the things you celebrate everyday. A journal is easy to put away once you are done and has the advantage of being a record of your daily answers. This means, you can revisit what you did in the past if need be or to celebrate how far you’ve come.

Here are a few ideas of how you could do this:

  • Celebrate 1 positive thing that happened during the day
  • Celebrate several positive things – you decide on the number – that you currently have in your life (“thing” means things, happenings, people….everything that qualifies as “thing” in other words)
  • Celebrate 1 thing you’ve achieved today
  • Work retrospectively and celebrate several positive things you’ve had in your life up till now

Try it out.

I’m not saying it will work for you but it’s worth a try. Unless you try, you won’t know.

It’s worth a try because essentially it also costs you nothing and could bring you health benefits. I say this because you don’t need to invest in a new notebook. You could use half filled notebooks from home, make your own notebooks, use post it notes or scrap paper that you then fold and add to a jar or box. You get the gyst. It’s your time and you get to decide what works best for you.

Where upon, I wish you a lovely day and hope you found a little something positive in this post. And who knows….a new found desire to try gratitude, as described above, out.

Alex.
